The power just went out
Food rescue

Good food, cheaper, before it goes to waste

When the power goes, shops, supermarkets and restaurants can sell food that is still safely cold at lower prices, so it gets eaten instead of thrown away.

Safety first

Rules for every deal

  • Only food that has stayed at 5 °C or below, or is still frozen solid. The business checks it with a thermometer and says when.
  • Chilled food that has been above 5 °C for more than two hours can't be listed. It has to be thrown away.
  • Nothing past its use-by date.
  • Collect it the same day, with a cool bag, and put it straight in a working fridge or eat it soon.
  • The business is responsible for the food it sells, just as in the shop.
For shops, supermarkets and restaurants

Post a deal

Send us the details and we'll check them and put your deal on this page. It's free.

  1. Check the food's temperature and note the time.
  2. Send us what it is, how much, the price, where to collect it and until when.
  3. We publish it, and it disappears when your pickup time ends.

Not sure if something is safe to sell? Ask your local Environmental Health officer first. If in doubt, don't list it.

Can't sell it in time?

Give it away safely

Food that is still safely cold can go to a charity or neighbours instead. Only give away food you have checked with a thermometer, and tell people when to eat it by.
